“Chaos of thought and passion, all confused; Still by himself abused or disabused; Created half to rise, and half to fall; Great lord of all things, yet a prey to all; Sole judge of truth, in endless error hurled, - The glory, jest, and riddle of the world.” ~Alexander Pope

Acer pseudoplatanus, Sycamore (or Sycamore Maple, to distinguish it from other plants called sycamore) is a species of maple native to central Europe and southwestern Asia, from France east to Ukraine, and south in mountains to northern Spain, northern Turkey, and the Caucasus.[2][3] In Scotland, the Sycamore is known as the Plane tree, although it is not a member of the Platanus genus. Its apparent similarity to the plane led to its being named pseudoplatanus, using the Ancient Greek prefix pseudo (false).

(An elderly customer is checking out.)
Customer: “How do I use this card?”
Me: “All you have to do is slide it through, then push the ‘debit’ button on the left.”
Customer: ”Thanks. What does ‘PIN’ mean?”
Me: “Your pin number is the number that goes with your card. You just need to enter it in and hit the green button in the corner.”
Customer: “Okay, but turn around. I don’t need you stealing my money away.”
(I think she is joking, but she stares at me until I turn around. She then states each number in her pin out loud as she pushes the buttons.)
Customer: “You didn’t peek, did you?”

POEM
Release
by Jamais Vu
http://allpoetry.com/poem/6451273
clicking beads beglitter neck and wrists,
with tears glistening off salt raw cheeks.
fingers, palms clenching in tighter fists
hold my breath against the stench existence reeks.
like fool's gold shattered glass sparkles on the floor,
and i reach for the pieces that threaten my skin
waiting for the laceration, because i fear there is more
pain and sorrow stalking me before i can breathe again.
blanketed by darkness sleep eludes these eyes,
so i fill the empty silent night with screams and cries.
upon bloodshot hazels and shivering muscles will the dawn arise
where within the wind you'll hear the echoes of desperate sighs.
map the spot where stones mark the moment where it dies,
this darkness within i cling to like a carnival prize.
clicking keys riddle the auditory ambience of my room,
providing backdrop for music marking this house occupied.
every light glaring brutally to banish the lurking gloom,
highlighting the stains where once felled the tears i've cried.
fading away like smoke and ashes in the wind,
defined only by the lack of prints that i leave,
drowning in guilt, regret for all i've sinned
and violently embraced by the shame of the lies i believe...
blanketed by darkness sleep eludes these eyes,
so i fill the empty silent night with screams and cries.
upon bloodshot hazels and shivering muscles will the dawn arise
where within the wind you'll hear the echoes of desperate sighs.
map the spot where stones mark the moment where it dies,
this darkness within i cling to like a carnival prize.
hear the ghosts of chains breaking away from me
as i break and bleed, struggling to get free.
i was never meant to be caged like this, you see.
hear the ghosts of shackles fall, no longer defining me.
blanketed by darkness sleep eludes these eyes,
so i fill the empty silent night with screams and cries.
upon bloodshot hazels and shivering muscles will the dawn arise
where within the wind you'll hear the echoes of desperate sighs.
map the spot where stones mark the moment where it dies,
this darkness within i cling to like a carnival prize.
